Coming into Rajasthan Royals’ match against Delhi Capitals, Chris Morris had been the hot topic of conversation. He became the most expensive player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history when the Royals picked him up for Rs 16.25 crore, leading to immense scrutiny and immediate pressure to perform. Then, in the Royals’ opening game against Punjab Kings, with the team needing five runs off two deliveries, he was denied a single by captain Sanju Samson, even as they went on to lose.
However, with the team in a pressure situation once again, Morris stepped up and delivered the goods, as he smashed 36 off 18 deliveries to guide them to a three-wicket win.
After the match, the Royals took to Instagram to share a cheekily timed video.
“Sound on,” the caption reads, with a wink emoji. In the video, Morris can be seen repeating the Hindi phrase “sambhaal lenge” (we’ll handle it).
Morris did indeed handle it, as his rescue act saw the Royals post their first win of the season.
When David Miller departed after hitting 62 off 43 deliveries, Morris took the onus of seeing the team to the finish line, and smashed four sixes in the last two overs to seal victory with two balls remaining.
Promoted
After a terrific bowling performance that saw them restrict DC to 147/8, the Royals got off to a horror start and were struggling at 42/5 after 9.2 overs.
But Miller’s half-century and a handy 17-ball 19 from Rahul Tewatia meant they stayed in the hunt and Morris delivered the perfect finish.
