India Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane is celebrating his 33rd birthday on Sunday and wishes started pouring in from all parts of the world. Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag took to Twitter to extend his wishes to Rahane and hailed him for his leadership skills that saw India defeat Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Test series earlier this year. “The Karate Kid in you was seen in Australia. After the 36 all out in Adelaide, the way you led from the front in a historic test series victory will always be etched in every Cricket lover’s memory. Happy Birthday @ajinkyarahane88 Kee May,” Sehwag tweeted.

Sehwag’s birthday wish for Ajinkya Rahane attracted many comments from cricket fans.

“Well said. Proud of Ajinkya Captaincy and his coolness on field. No show-off,” a user said.

“Ajinkya – unbeatable – always like the calm exterior – still waters run deep @ajinkyarahane88,” another one joined in.

In that series in Australia, Rahane led the Indian team after the visitors were blown away in the first Test of the four-match series. India captain Virat Kohli had to fly back home after the first Test to be with his wife as they were expecting their first child.

Rahane took over the captaincy reins from Kohli and scored an inspiring century in the 2nd Test to help India level the series.

The middle-order batsman then led the visitors to a draw at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground and then India managed to breach the Gabba fortress as they beat Australia by two wickets in the fourth Test to clinch the series 2-1.

Rahane along with the rest of the Indian team are currently in Southampton for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final. The inaugural WTC final will be played between India and New Zealand at The Ageas Bowl stadium, starting June 18 with June 23 to be kept as reserve day.
