Chicago White Sox right-hander Lance Lynn will be sidelined for four weeks due to a right knee injury, general manager Rick Hahn said Sunday.
Lynn was pulled from his final spring training start Saturday night with right knee discomfort.
He will undergo a procedure on Tuesday to repair a “slight” tear in the knee and won’t return to the mound for four weeks, meaning it could be longer before he is ready to pitch in a game.
The 34-year-old had issues with the same knee last season and went on the injured list for 10 days. He also spent almost a month after the season resting and rehabbing the knee.
Lynn went 11-6 with a 2.69 ERA in 28 starts last season and finished third in American League Cy Young Award balloting, behind winner Robbie Ray of the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole.
The White Sox will likely turn to right-handers Reynaldo Lopez and Vince Velasquez to help fill in for Lynn.
